Did you know that each of the students at the Burt Township School District are in Harry Potter-like houses??? As part of our positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS) initiative we developed a house system here at the school. We tested it out last year and because it was universally enjoyed by all, we decided to fully integrate it into our weekly routines this year.
We have four house colors.
There are four houses at the school and each house has a mix of elementary, middle, and high school students. It’s just such a great way for our elementary school students to hang out with and be alongside our middle and high school students who they so look up to.The four houses include:
The Blue Lakes
The Yellow Dunes
The Red Pines
The Green Ferns
The four houses
As you can see, the names and colors of the houses represent prominent natural features in our Grand Marais landscape. We thought it would be fun to highlight the “nature in abundance” that Grand Marais is known for.
Students compete for house points that they earn and accumulate throughout the year. House points can be awarded by teachers for students who exemplify PROWL behavior and can also be earned weekly during competitions that we have between the houses. Examples of house competitions include trivia, kickball, and school spirit days.
Positive. Respectful. Open-minded. Work Ethic. Lifelong Learning.
Students are obviously working towards bettering themselves but they’re also in search of the oh-so-grand House Cup. As house points accumulate throughout the year, the competition between the houses becomes more and more fierce. The house with the most points at the end of the year will be crowned house champions and will be awarded the Burt Township School District House Cup. Take a look for yourself where each of the houses currently stand!
Not the actual House Cup…
