School is on the horizon! This is a special edition of the Superintendent’s Corner that’ll include some updated information to make sure everyone is ready for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 7th. Please feel free to reach out to the school if you have any questions about any of the points below.
- On Monday, August 30, 2021 the Burt Township School Board voted to require masks for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the Grand Marais School building in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Please feel free to bring your own mask that you feel comfortable wearing, otherwise the school has plenty of masks that will be available for you to choose from.
- Masks must also be worn on the school bus. Our bus driver Lou will provide masks for students who do not have one. Germfask students can expect to be picked up between 7:00 and 7:10am (weather permitting). We are again asking Grand Marais students this year to find transportation to school in order to make social distancing on the bus feasible. Breakfast will be served at 8:10 and school will start at 8:30.
- All families were sent a back to school packet by mail which included forms that needed to be signed and returned to our office manager Olivia Zech. Please remember to bring your completed paperwork to school so we can file it away and keep everything organized.
- The school will be using the Remind App this year for official communication. Parents and guardians, please think about how you wish to receive official updates from the school (app, email, or text). A letter will be going home this week for you to choose your preferred method so be on the lookout!
- We’ve successfully added a telehealth counselor option for this year. Burt Township School District is working with Joven Health to provide an additional option for students who wish to speak with a licenced counselor. You can read the parent letter from Joven Health here for more detailed information on why mental health services are so important for our students. This consent form will be sent home for parents and guardians to review and sign in the coming weeks.
- Looking ahead, our first soccer game is on September 16th at 5:00 vs Munising Baptist. Contact the school for all your BTSD t-shirt and hoodie needs. Come out and support your fighting Polar Bears as we welcome back our athletics program to the Burt Township School District!
Though that’s all for now, please keep your eyes on our school Facebook page, the school website, and the upcoming student-led Polar Bear Press newsletter for more updates and school-related information throughout the year. GO BEARS!!!
