The colors are really changing now. Head into Grand Marais from 77 and along the shoreline in either direction and you’ll be rewarded with all of the splendid beauty of fall here in the north country. If you’re lucky, you might just run into a polar bear!
Proud Polar Bear!
Speaking of which, our Polar Bear soccer team has been clawing their way through the season and though they’ve yet to secure a win, their hard work and dedication is admirable. It feels so good to bring sports back to the Burt Township School District and provide some fun and entertainment for the community. Thank you to everyone who has come out to watch our fighting Polar Bears and please cheer us on as we go on the road in October to Mackinac and Munising Baptist.
Great to see people out supporting the team
I spent last week down in Traverse City at the Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) fall conference. It was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the superintendency and meet other superintendents and administrators from around the state. Undoubtedly one of the most impactful things I came away from the conference with were my superintendent goals:
Create a strategic plan (1 year).
Increase access to mental health services (1 year).
Enhance the educational potential of the School Forest (2 years).
Review teaching and learning (3 years).
These goals will be fleshed out in more detail soon but it really does feel good to have a more tangible idea of the direction I’ll be heading.
Grabbed a couple pumpkins near Grand Traverse Bay…
The last thing I want to say in this update is not about me at all, it is about the people I work with. I cannot speak highly enough of each of my colleagues here in Grand Marais. Olivia, Jen P., Amy R., Jordan, Gordon, Louis, McCormick, Jane, Gary, Lou and Devin all deserve credit and recognition for the success of our school. We also have some amazing support staff in Jess, Jen I., Amy B., and Ian W. that add immense value too. If you have a chance, please thank these people for all they do because I cannot thank them enough. I feel incredibly lucky to have such a strong, supportive team by my side.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts
